The other night I was sitting around with some red felt trying to figure out what to make. I decided on a bow and came up with this way of doing it. I’m sure there are plenty of other ways but it turned out so cute and all I needed was thread, a needle, some felt, a pair of scissors and a ruler. Let’s get started:
1. Cut out all the pieces. I started with an 8X11 piece of felt and cut strips about a 1/2″ thick from the 8″ side.
2. I then made 4-4″ strips, 8-2″ strips, and 2-1″ strips cut in half the long way to end up with 4-1″ strips.
3. I took the 2″ pieces and cut the ends to look like the bottom of a bow. I made 4 with the double point and 4 with a slant.
4. I took 1 of the 4″ pieces and brought both ends together at the center and pulled my threaded and knotted needle through both sides.
5.Then I made large stitches along the seem (through both sides-don’t worry about how nice it looks because it will get covered up).
6. Pull the thread tight and make sure your thread is coming out of the back side (side with the seam).
7. Now take 1 of your 1″ pieces and lay it under the part you have done and also perpendicular to it. Make sure the seam is facing you.
8. Put the thread through one of the overhanging ends.
9. Pull it through the other overhanging end.
10. Pull the thread tight which will bring the 2 short ends together in the middle. Pull the thread through the 2 ends 2 more times to secure it. Leave thread attached.
11.If you turn your work over you will see it is starting to look like a bow.
12. Grab 2 of the 2″ pieces and overlap them slightly at the top. Pull thread through the top making sure both ends are attached.
13. Pull the ends up close to the bow until they are as close as they can be.
14. Sew the top of the ends to the bow making sure to not go through the front layer, at this point you don’t want the thread showing on the front. Cut tread leaving enough to tie a knot. Tie a knot and cut excess thread.
15. Turn over and you now have a finished bow.
16. Repeat 3 more times.
